leaf Municipal Information

Webbwood began as being part of the Township of Hallam in the District of Algoma with a reeve and council as its governing body. In 1906 it became a town in the Township of Hallam with a mayor and council.

Recently Webbwood has ceased to exist as a separate town. It has been amalgamated along with Massey, the unorganized townships of May and Shakespeare, and the Township of the Spanish River to form the Township of the Sable Spanish River. Their website is http://www.sables-spanish.ca/.

In the early 1900's many of the council minutes were published in the Sault Star. These minutes not only give us a glimpse into the early life of the town, they also give the names of people who resided there. They have been transcribed as they were written, spelling and grammar mistakes included!
